A recent collaboration between the Smart Systems Group and Dundee University has led to an exciting conference paper, titled “Towards the Automatic Visual Monitoring of Electricity Pylons from Aerial Images“. The research from SSG allowed Professor David Flynn to contribute to the shared understanding of critical infrastructure and the need to design robust solutions, allowing for the delivery of information to key stakeholders.

This piece of multidisciplinary research was presented at the 15th International Joint Conference on Computer Vision, Imaging and Computer Graphics Theory and Applications in Valletta, Malta, last month. The research highlighted the importance of expert analysis of asset management in energy systems and the advancements in deep learning which may be integrated to deliver next generation solutions to critical infrastructure.
