The £28.5 million ReFLEX Orkney demonstrator project is 50% funded by UKRI through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and 50% funded via private investment.

The Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund is run by UKRI, brings together the UK’s world leading research with business to meet the major industrial and societal challenges of our time. It provides funding and support to UK businesses and researchers, part of the government’s £4.7 billion increase in research and development. It plays a central role in the Government’s modern Industrial Strategy.
The project is led by the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) with cross-sector partners including Aquatera, SMS, Community Energy Scotland, Heriot-Watt University and Orkney Islands Council.
