Post-Doctoral Research Associate
EM 3.32 Earl Mountbatten, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, EH14 4AS

Jamie is a Research Associate working on the development of radar methodologies for laboratory and field-based asset integrity monitoring. Having attained a BSc (hons) at Heriot-Watt University in Physics with Environmental Science in 2003, Jamie has enjoyed upstream petroleum industry experience prior to achieving an MSc in Petroleum Geoscience in 2014, also from Heriot-Watt University.

Joining the Smart Systems Group in April 2015, his research was the novel use of radar to determine in situ flow characteristics within deformed rocks and “pseudorock” analogues, serving as a platform for preliminary work in real-time sensing within an extreme environment and a departure from current practices of post-failure analysis.

Jamie’s post-doctoral research interests are the development of FMCW radar for asset integrity, both on and offshore, and the successful integration of millimetre-wave sensing technology to autonomous platforms for holistic infrastructure assessment and improvements in operational decision making, ultimately improving Capex and Opex commitments for commercial operators and society.
