Pioneering an Environment and Health Monitoring Smart System

The SSG have designed, manufactured, deployed and evaluated an Environment and Health Monitoring System (EHMS) that can automate and optimise critical asset operations, quantify existing conditions, predict future State of Health (SoH), and detect precursors to asset failure. The impacts of this advanced condition monitoring system are in its adoption and outcomes within the defence, energy and transport sectors. These include EHMS being installed, as a world-first, onto critical aircraft handling equipment on HMS Ocean, the UK’s helicopter carrier and Fleet Flagship of the Royal Navy.

Today we are supporting the Royal Navy with our research into non-destructive sensing and advanced materials for critical assets.

Royal Navy Vanguard Class submarine HMS Vigilant returning to HMNB Clyde after her extended deployment. The four Vanguard-class submarines form the UK’s strategic nuclear deterrent force. Each of the the four boats is armed with Trident 2 D5 nuclear missiles. Like all submarines the Vanguard Class are steam powered, their reactors converting water into steam to drive the engines and generate electricity.
