Dr. Merlinda Andoni

Research Associate
Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, EH14 4AS
Research Profile: Heriot-Watt Research Profile

Merlinda is a Research Associate working for the UK’s National Centre for Energy Systems Integration (CESI), a project that aims to unravel the energy network and understand future supply and demand.  Her role in the CESI is the investigation of distributed ledger or blockchain technologies as an enabler for the low carbon energy transition and multi-agent systems modelling for decentralised energy systems.

Merlinda is currently working towards a PhD degree in smart grids. Her thesis aims to explore how artificial intelligence and game-theoretic techniques can be utilised to actively manage electricity networks with increased penetration of renewable generation.  She holds an MSc degree in Renewable Energy and Distributed Generation from Heriot-Watt University and a 5-year Diploma degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (with a specialisation in Energy) from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece.  Merlinda has also worked for several years as an energy consultant for over 140MW of renewable projects in Greece.

She has participated in several national and international conferences and workshops and has been awarded several prizes including the Academic Award in the Young Professionals Green Energy Awards 2018, a special prize for the best student performance in all taught postgraduate degrees within the Engineering & Physical Sciences during her MSc studies.  She is a student member of IEEE, the IEEE Power and Energy Society and IEEE Smart Grid Society, a student member of the Energy Institute and a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece.
